Very bad experience – old scooters and unhelpful service

On July 1st, we wanted to rent a 50cc scooter from Eco Bike in Avola. Their website looked professional, so we trusted them. Unfortunately, that trust was misplaced.

At the address, we expected a proper scooter rental shop. Instead, we found an architect’s office with just a few old scooters parked outside. We had to choose between two very old and bad scooters: a Vespa and a Yamaha Neo’s. The woman advised us not to take the Vespa and recommended the Yamaha instead.

The scooter already had problems from the start, but she told us that was “normal.” Also, I (a woman) couldn’t get a helmet in size S – they didn’t have one. I had to wear a helmet that was too big, which didn’t feel safe.

We paid €100 for 2.5 days. Soon we noticed many problems:
– The gas handle didn’t work properly (it kept turning and didn’t respond well)
– The speedometer didn’t work
– And there were other technical issues

The next morning, we wanted to go for a hike, but the scooter couldn’t even go up a small hill. It stopped working completely. We quickly returned to the office.

There, we were not helped in a good way. Nobody spoke proper English, and they kept telling us to take a 125cc scooter instead – but we don’t have a license for that. Then they offered us the old Vespa, the one they said not to take earlier. When the paperwork was ready, we found out this Vespa also had problems. For example, there was no lock on the seat – something they didn’t even mention.

That was enough for us. We decided not to rent anything from them anymore. Out of the €100 we paid, we only got €55 back.

In short: bad scooters, bad service, unsafe gear, and no responsibility. We don’t recommend Eco Bike at all.

Daniele and this bike shop were wonderful. He was able to get a good vespa for my father that we ended up extending the rental twice! Everything was super professional and shockingly quick, we were given a good, new helmet and the bike ran great for the entire week. On top of it, Daniele's local restaurant recommendations for Avola were INCREDIBLE. Really rare to find such a personal touch to these sort of businesses now, glad to see a place like this still exists.
