Great bike, worked flawlessly. No issues in the 10’s of km ridden. Rented pedals too, but should have brought my own to have the same release feel. Did bring a frame bag that was nice to have. My quad lock phone mount was easy to pop on and off as well. Great staff and great bike.
Fantastic guides, mechanics, and bikes. Rented a Scott Addict road bike with disc brakes for 11 days of pure joy. I brought my pedals and seat. Install and removal were done professionally and quickly at the Dory bike shop. Loved the entire experience!
Bikes were in great condition. Mechanics quickly installed our own pedals and saddles, which we brought with us. They setup the bikes to our measurements. No problems at all with the bikes. Bike return was quick and efficient. Price was very reasonable.
Hotel Dory was fantastic. The bike i ultimately had was perfect - an addict e bike. The bike staff was absolutely wonderful!! Paulo, Drelli, and Micole were the guides i rode with. They were so pleasant and accommodating, gave info about places, took us on fabulous rides. Alessandro runs the bike program and is obviously quite competent as a manager. The hotel served 3 tasty elegant meals/day buffet style. Stephano owns and runs the hotel and is a most personable, enjoyable and approachable man. We had a fabulous trip!!

Frustrating Bike Rental Experience at Hotel Dory – Not What Was Promised
Just got back from a cycling trip to Riccione (week of May 10) and wanted to share a warning about Hotel Dory for those thinking of staying there with plans to rent a bike.
I reserved a brand-new, high-end Scott Addict e-road bike (carbon frame, electronic shifting) due to old wrist/ankle injuries. When I arrived for my fitting, the bike was nowhere to be found. The manager first claimed it was there, then said it was “out for repair.” Turns out, they gave my bike to another guest the day before after his broke—and never told me. I was handed the aluminum gravel e-bike he refused.
I was told replacement bikes were being ordered—first promised by Tuesday, then Thursday—but the head mechanic finally admitted: no bikes were ever coming that week. I spent the whole week riding a chattering gravel bike on 40–50 mile road rides.
Others in my group had e-bike failures, poor replacements, and similar frustrations. To top it off, review cards were only given to guests who had good experiences, which feels dishonest.
Bottom line: Hotel Dory may have been top-tier once, but their fleet is aging, poorly managed, and they aren’t upfront with guests. Serious cyclists should consider bringing their own bike—or staying elsewhere.
Below is my follow-up reply to the reply I received from the Dory bike manager:
I read your reply Alessandro, but I need to correct the record:
• I never said I was “okay” with getting a different bike. I told you I had reserved the Scott Addict e-Ride because I’m considering buying one and wanted to test it. You said the gravel e-bike was the only option, period.
• If I seemed “flexible,” it’s only because I stayed calm. I'm on vacation, and I don’t believe getting loud should be necessary to receive fair treatment. Unfortunately, being loud seems to be what gets attention.
• You said I didn’t complain during the week. That’s because your hotel owner had promised three new bikes were ordered and I expected to be riding one of them by Tuesday. When they didn’t, you pushed it to Thursday. You may recall that Tuesday evening, I reiterated to you that I was eager to ride the Scott e-bike because I was considering buying one. I didn’t complain because I thought you were doing what you could to get my on the bike I had reserved. However, on Wednesday evening when I approached your head mechanic, he said he knew nothing of what you and I had discussed and there were never bikes on order for this week.
• Regarding my wife’s bike: we pre-arranged a properly sized model from another shop since your Scotts don’t fit riders under 5'2". While the bike was high-end, it was filthy, and when she asked for it to be cleaned, she was told, “It’s not our bike.”
• Selectively handing out QR review cards to only happy guests to filter and control feedback, is exactly how problems are allowed to persist. A smile and a wink won’t fix anything.
I didn’t miss any rides—but I did not get to enjoy the experience I planned and paid for. Most upsetting, I was repeatedly given information that turned out to be straight out false. That’s not just unfortunate—it’s unacceptable. I hope you and your team take this seriously and use it as an opportunity to improve how you communicate and follow through with your guests.

You’re right—we didn’t give you the bike you had reserved, and it’s also true that two other people had the same issue.
Unfortunately, what happened is real, both for us and for you.
In fact, three of our 15 Scott Addict 20 E-Ride bikes from 2024, equipped with Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed and still under warranty—including the one you booked—had been taken in for service just a few days before, due to various issues. One was damaged in a crash.
To be completely honest, when a bike becomes unavailable for reasons beyond our control, I have to make difficult decisions.
I try to assign the replacement (which in this case was of lower quality) to someone who seems more flexible. You had told me you would be okay with a different bike, so we made that choice.
During your stay, I didn’t receive complaints about the bike, just requests of news which there were not and I thank you for your attitude.
I’m sorry if I didn’t show enough empathy or recognize your discomfort—sometimes I miss the signs.
That said, I’d like to share some information about our service with you and with readers:
- Every year, we handle around 1,300 Scott bike rentals with great flexibility.
- We manage a fleet of 220 bikes (traditional and electric), the oldest from 2022.
- We’re the only rental in Italy offering 9 different types of Scott bikes in all sizes.
- A dedicated rental manager and lead mechanic follow customers from booking to delivery, 365 days a year.
- On busy weekends like the one when you were here, our team of 3 mechanics handles over 80 bikes for cleaning, maintenance, and delivery.
In case of issues, we collaborate with local bike shops to supply replacement bikes. None of the three guests affected—including you—missed a day of riding.
I apologize for the inconvenience. With so many bookings and high-end bikes, problems can happen—but we do everything possible to ensure no one misses out on riding and we always manage, may be not with the best bike possible but always with a good and suitable bike.
Even your wife got an XXXS bike from an other shop which she was very happpy with!
As for your comment about our requests for good reviews, I’ll answer with a little ironic smile and a wink—I’m sure you’ll get it ;-)

The experience at the Dory was fantastic. The bikes are well kept and the guides/ mechanics are professional, knowledgeable, friendly and tireless in keeping all the bikes in good working order.
The guys at Dory Bike Rental are very efficient and super nice! We showed up Sunday morning at 7:30 to pick up our bikes for the week. We ran into some initial issues, so they let us go eat breakfast while they figured it out. When we got back around 8:30, they popped on our pedals, adjusted the bikes to our measurement - which even included sawing off a couple mm off the bottom of the seat post for my short legs, and got us out the door for the 9am ride. The Scott e-gravel bike I rented was perfect- no mechanical issues at all and the standard saddle was comfortable for me.
Traveling over 6000 miles from Los Angeles for a bike trip in Ricionne Italy, the last thing you want is extra stress about the shop that’s taking care of your cycling needs. (rental bike and all your personal fitment issues)
These folks were amazing and I saw them consistently go above and beyond what you’d expect.
I asked them in the morning of the last riding day if there was a way to size me down from a small to extra small on my scott addict rental. This resulted in extra work for them for a pedal/seat swap at a busy time and they handled it without missing a beat.
I can’t say enough about the diligence and expertise I witnessed, not only with our group, but also all the other riders.
I wish I could bring these guys home with me!

Excelente la atención de los mecánicos qje prepararon y adaptaron la bicicleta a mi altura y comodidad. Cuentan con bicicletas Scott de alta gama para carretera, gravel, mountain y eléctricas. Las Scott Addict Disc son las que mejor se adaptan para las numerosas escaladas. Los precios razonables hacen innecesario viajar con tu propia bicicleta si lo que deseas es explorar la zona de la Emilia Romagna.
I cannot say enough good things. It was a brand new beautiful bicycle, supported throughout the week with top Quality Mechanical assistance, and I would use this outfit anytime.
The team at the Dory really care about their riders. The bikes are spectacularly clean and very well maintained. The bike mechanics work endlessly to make sure everything is perfect, and it was perfect! Thank you to everyone at the Dory!!!!
