Totally recommend that agency and especially our guide Carmelo! We took a day trip to Etna’s north slope + alcantara gorge. Carmelo was one of the best guide we ever had. It looks like a guy really likes what he does. Landscapes were beautiful, and most of the time we didn’t meet other tourists on the way which is a huge plus. This tour might not be right for those who want to see the most overhyped spots in Etna, but it’s perfect if you appreciate peace and quiet, a slow pace, and want to learn more about the volcano itself, explore pristine forests with incredibly beautiful birch trees, and simply enjoy a nice day away from the crowds of tourists and the noise of the coastal resorts. Simply recommend it! Worth every euro spent!

I took a day trip to Mount Etna on July 7, 2026, with Sicily Active, and it was an absolutely exceptional experience! We were a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers), and the group size was perfect—just 8 tourists in total (9 people including our guide, Davide).Logistically, everything was flawless. We were picked up directly from our accommodation in Giardini Naxos in a very comfortable minivan. The company provided everything we needed for safety and comfort, including helmets, trekking poles, and a bottle of water for the hike.Although we originally had a summit crater climb scheduled, the agency prioritized our safety due to the recent volcanic eruptions on July 5th and 6th. They quickly offered us an excellent alternative: a beautiful hike through a completely safe area of the volcano.
Our guide, Davide, was simply fantastic! His passion and deep knowledge turned the hike into an incredible, interactive lesson. He shared fascinating details about Sicily as a whole, how Mount Etna was formed, the chemical composition of its emissions, and its history of eruptions. It was also highly interesting to learn about the massive benefits the volcanic soil brings to the local people, as well as facts about the Aeolian Islands. I whole-heartedly recommend them!

We did the half-day Mt Etna + Gorges + cave group tour with Giampiero from Sicily Active as our guide in late June this year and it was amazing. The hiking was a lot of fun - perfect balanced pace. The Gorges and cave were unique and refreshing. The photos we took and just being at some of the mountain tops were stunning of course too. And Giampiero was a phenomenal guide - insightful, knowledgeable, answered every question, caring, and great sense of humor. Five stars!

From our experience too, for this half day tour, if it's sunny 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit in Taormina, you won't need a jacket even on the mountain, at least for this shorter half-day tour.
