Alberto was the most amazing, kind and knowledgeable tour guide. We spent a wonderful day at Mount Etna, hiking and a delicious wine sampling lunch at a vineyard. It was a wonderful break from the heat in the beautiful countryside. Highly recommended.

Etna Summit Tour - we knew it was going to be a great experience, but Piero, our guide, turned it into a memory for a lifetime. He kept everyone safe, gave us so much info and insights starting with the car trip all the way to the summit. We totally recommend this tour, it is a little bit challenging, but the guides keep everyone safe. And yes, you get all the way up in the edge of the summit, you just climb till it starts looking like Mordor.

I feel the need to mention, as Piero and Giuseppe did, the intention is always to climb to the very top, where you see all the gas, ashes and volcanic activity on the edge of the craters, but weather and volcanic activity can highly impact what is possible to reach at the time of your visit.

Had a really great experience! Our guide Vito was brilliant; really friendly, funny and made the whole trip even more enjoyable. The pickup was quick and well organised, and we were given all the gear we needed, including trekking boots and a helmet.

I felt really safe the whole time and we were given some interesting information about how the craters were formed and the different types of rock. The pace was good too, and we had plenty of chances to stop for short breaks and take in the views.

There were loads of great spots for photos, and the views along the way were amazing. Getting to the summit and seeing the ash clouds and volcanic activity up close was such a cool experience.

Definitely one of the highlights of the trip and something I won’t forget. Would 100% recommend!

I had a wonderful and very memorable experience hiking Etna with Sicily Active.

I had originally hoped to do the longer hike, and although plans changed a couple of times depending on group size, Sicily Active was always very transparent and kept me well informed. On the day itself, our guide Vito suggested that, if everyone was comfortable, we could attempt the longer route after all, and the whole group enthusiastically agreed.

The hike itself was beautiful, with surprisingly pleasant weather and quite a bit of shade. We started around 1,700 metres and ultimately reached about 2,100 metres. We had the option of continuing toward 2,400 metres, but it became clear that this would be too much for some members of the group, so we stopped there.

What made the experience particularly special was Vito. One older woman in our group found parts of the hike challenging, and he was extraordinarily patient and supportive. He would go ahead to inspect the trail and find safer or easier alternatives, then return to help her through steep or slippery sections. On the descent, he was practically her walking stick. At the same time, he kept the whole group engaged, laughing and learning.

The group itself was wonderful too. Nobody was impatient about moving more slowly; everyone genuinely cheered her on. When she reached our highest point, Vito suggested that we all give her a hug to celebrate. It was such a wholesome moment and perfectly captured the camaraderie that had developed during the day.

Vito also explained Etna’s geology, lava and volcanic activity, showed us photos from recent eruptions, and shared what it was like to witness them himself. Everything, from rest stops to practical advice, was communicated clearly.

I also highly recommend renting hiking shoes from Sicily Active. Some sections are covered in loose volcanic gravel and can be very slippery, and the shoes also saved mine from being completely covered in black volcanic dust.

I had originally hoped to climb higher, but in the end that hardly mattered. I got beautiful views of Etna, a fantastic hike, and an unexpectedly warm and memorable group experience. A huge thank you to Vito and Sicily Active, I’ll remember this day for a long time.
